L'chaim

I've been going through photos tonight, working on cleaning up and organizing my hard drive, and I came upon this wonderful little moment:

It's from Daddy's birthday, December 2008. I love everything about this picture - each facial expression, the laughter, the warmth, the love, the wine bottles reflecting the candlelight.

I've been thinking a lot lately about a year ago; the last month of Daddy's life. How hard it was, yes - but mostly how beautiful, how rich and full and quiet and abundant in love.

a new apartment, a new roommate (this one's bearded), and perhaps time to revitalize the blog?

Hello faithful readers (Mom? Are you still there?),

Anna here. It's a new autumn, it's a new apartment (less crooked, but smaller, and also less moldy which is a big plus), and I have a new roommate. He's a lot taller than Teffer and he has a beard. He's also married to me, and his name is Jake.

...and so it might be time to try again at this whole blogging thing. It was fun the couple times it happened.

a bit of Dostoevsky, today.

I believe like a child that suffering will be healed and made up for, that all the humiliating absurdity of human contradictions will vanish like a pitiful mirage, like the despicable fabrication of the impotent and infinitely small Euclidean mind of man, that in the world's finale, at the moment of eternal harmony, something so precious will come to pass that it will suffice for all hearts, for the comforting of all resentments, for the atonement of all the crimes of humanity, of all the blood that they've shed; that it will make it not only possible to forgive but to justify all that has happened.

- The Brothers Karamazov

I believe that, too, and I am comforted by it.

happy Monday

This is a good day. This is a good song. Turn it up and dance!
